The Lio & Associates team worked to increase the market adoption for the ICLR Designed for Safer Living® Program (DSL Program) to protect homeowners from preventable damage caused by natural disasters. The DSL Program specifies construction and design guidelines to enable homes to increase their resistance to natural disasters, with the objective to one day lead to the Codification of certain DSL Program requirements. Without a robust narrative that documents the costs, impacts on construction practice, defect risk and homeowner benefits, code change proposals stand little hope of acceptance. The practices outlined in the DSL Program required industry validation prior to their acceptance as a part of any regulatory change. The objective of this project was to engage Ontario builders in a review of the Designed for Safer Living® Program, promoting the construction of discovery homes in their market as part of a broader market transformation strategy.
